I saw a peice on John Stewart (as well as some "hard news" sources) about crazy religous folks saying that God is sending natural disasters to wipe out gays and decadence in general. John correctly pointed out that the only area of New Orleans that was not flooded was the French Quarter where the GAy Pride parade was suppose to occur (the parade is what brought down God's wrath upon us). Now we could conclude that God just has bad aim, or as John Stewart claimed "God doesn't like the people that are next to gays". But I think there is a bigger pattern here.
Being a scienctician, I created several 3 dimensional pie graphs, and bar graphs representing means (which I unfortunately cannot post here) that shows that of the 7 of the states that have had God's wrath bear down upon them , all voted for Bush in the 2004. So imagine a 3 D pie graph of States that have had a hurricane landfall, with red representing which of those states voted for Bush and Blue representing those who voted for Kerry. This is one red graph and damn it is pretty, it has a little shadow showing its height and the red is a fire engine red - just a really pretty graph.
Now I extended my study to look at worldwide natural disasters. I looked at the number of natural disasters that occured in countries that allow gay marriage and the number of countries that do not allow gay marriage. Again a shocking result for those fundamentalists. Canada, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium all allow same sex marriages and none of them have had a natural disaster in 2005! In fact, wikipedia lists 12 natural disasters in the 21st century and none of them have affected any of these countries. Approximately 20 countries have been affected by natural disasters - 5 allow same sex unions, 6 do not allow same sex unions but do not punish gays, and 9 of the countries smote by God's wrath, legally punish homosexuality. Again imagine a beautiful graph representing this.
So my comclusion is not about gays and God's wrath, it is about religion and analytical thinking. The reason the church is so afraid of evolution and other scientific boogeymen is not that they contradict scripture, it is that the process of thinking that leads to these conclusions is dangerous. If you can limit the ability of people to create even pie graphs that can dispute fantastical claims, then you can say whatever you would like. I guess this is all really obvious but it allowed me to talk about 3D pie graphs and bar graphs with means - something I bet all you guys produce just to piss me off.

That reminds me of that map of hurricane tracks in 2004 and how counties voted in the 2000 election in Florida and Alabama:
That is nicely debunked here. The tracks aren't quite right, and of course hurricanes have a width of up to a few hundred miles.
I, of course, use 3D exploded pie charts as much as possible. I also try to have at least one axis break in my 3D bar charts.
Also, remember that G-d is very patient - she's probably just biding her time before dropping a big one on Canada/Holland/Belgium/Spain. If you have faith, you'll be willing to wait. I know she's pissed about all the buggery going on in Massachusetts, and New York, (not to mention all those faggy Canadians going at up there). I'm sure she's going to squeeze the trigger on the Cumbre Vieja (warning: pdf) any day now.
wink wink,
R.
PS if you send me jpgs of your pretty pretty graphs, I would be delighted to post them for you.

Q&Q
At long last, CBC is back! It was a pretty good quirks&quarks this week, Robert Reisz was on yet again with his latest dino-discovery, and some interesting stuff about wolves and trophic cascades.Available here
